Gothra: On February 27, 2002, Sabarmati Express was set on fire in Godhra, Gujarat. 59 people died in this. After that, a huge riot broke out. 17 people belonging to minority community were killed in Dilol village in Panchmahal district.
22 people including Mukesh Parwat, Gillol Jani, Ashokbhai Patel and Nirav Kumar Patel were arrested after 2 years in connection with this incident. They were later released on bail.
For the past 18 years, the case has been going on in the Panchmahal District Halol Court. At the end of the investigation, the court acquitted all 22 of them saying that there was insufficient evidence. 8 of them died during the investigation.
Advocate Gopal Singh Solanki, appearing for the accused, said, “Insufficient evidence has been presented against the accused. The bodies of the deceased have not been found. As a result, the judge has acquitted 22 accused in the case,” he said.
